Natural Fish Leather
Fish skins are commonly thought to be a waste product and are discarded. However, in days gone by, fish skins were tanned and used like other animal leathers in many countries throughout the world.
We are developing a selection of tanned fish leather using natural tanning methods based on traditional Sami and Scandinavian tanning recipes. We tan and dye the leather with tree barks and natural dyes.
The natural tanning process can be time consuming, often taking 1 to 3 weeks to complete. The fish skin goes through several steps of cleaning and descaling, soaking in various tanning solutions and softening procedures. Each type of fish has different characteristics and require different tanning solutions and methods.
